Morocco Evacuates Over 9,000 Citizens from Ukraine Amid Russian Invasion

Two weeks after the military invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Morocco has managed to repatriate more than 9,000 Moroccan citizens. From the first threats, the Moroccan embassy in Ukraine called on Moroccan nationals to leave the country.
The largest number of Moroccan arrivals was recorded on February 28. Thousands of people left Ukraine through the Slovak, Polish, Romanian and Hungarian borders. The Moroccan authorities, through Royal Air Maroc, coordinated the repatriation of Moroccans, including hundreds of students. On March 9, a group of 35 Moroccans stranded in Sumy were able to safely leave Ukraine.
Being able to evacuate the majority of Moroccan nationals from the country, a major effort was made by the Moroccan diplomatic authorities. "The number of diplomatic staff mobilized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Ukrainian border crossing points with Slovakia, Poland, Romania and Hungary will be gradually reduced".
According to other sources, the Russian authorities would have allowed nearly 300 Moroccans, mostly students, to leave Ukraine for Russian territory while preparing their return to Morocco.
