Two Royal Air Maroc Dreamliners Make Opposite Flights Between Casablanca and Teruel

Flight AT8758 left Casablanca on Saturday, October 3, bound for Teruel, according to Airportia. Flightradar24 data link the flight to Boeing 787-8 CN-RGT, an aircraft that was still operating commercial flights in the days before.

Another Boeing 787-8 belonging to the airline appears the same day on the reverse route. CN-RGS is listed on flight AT8757 from Teruel to Casablanca, which Airportia reports as having arrived. The movements between Morocco and the Spanish facility therefore involve two distinct aircraft.

The connection suggests an operation related to the technical management of the fleet. Flight-tracking data do not specify the reason for CN-RGT’s trip, however: maintenance, painting or temporary storage are among the services available in Teruel, but no specific work on this aircraft has been confirmed.

An airport where aircraft also come to stay on the ground

Located in Aragon, Teruel specialises in services for airlines. On its official website, the airport describes Tarmac Aerosave’s services: long-term parking, maintenance and aircraft recycling.

This range of services explains why airliners may travel to a destination little known to travellers. Some stay there before returning to service; others go through the hangars for technical work. The facilities also handle painting, useful in particular when an operator or livery changes.

These steps are part of the life of an airline fleet. Before joining Royal Air Maroc this year, a Dreamliner acquired from a Chinese airline was maintained and repainted in Haikou. The October 3 movements in Teruel involved two aircraft already identified in Moroccan colours.

To accommodate these aircraft, the facility has a 2,825-metre runway and extensive parking areas. Its dry, sunny climate is among the advantages cited for preserving grounded aircraft.

Teruel has also expanded its maintenance capacity: in 2024, Tarmac Aerosave opened a fourth hangar there, measuring 8,000 square metres and able to accommodate large aircraft, including the Airbus A380.
