Drug trafficking: a senior Moroccan official arrested upon disembarking from a plane
A Moroccan politician, member of a party in the governing coalition, was arrested this Saturday, November 8th at the Fès-Saïs airport. He was the subject of a national arrest warrant in the context of a drug trafficking case.
The man apprehended is Youssef Mourad, the regional secretary of the Rassemblement national des indépendants (RNI) for the Fès-Meknès region. He was arrested by the national security services upon disembarking from a plane coming from Malaga, Spain, after a long absence from the country.
According to consistent sources, the authorities had issued a judicial arrest warrant against him for his alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking network. After his arrest, he was taken into custody at the Regional Brigade of the Judicial Police (BRPJ) of Fès to be questioned about the accusations against him and must be presented to the King’s Prosecutor.
The case dates back to last year, when the BRPJ of Fès had dismantled a large network accused of drug trafficking, drug possession, and falsification of official documents.
