Tourist Bitten by Stray Dog at Tangier Port, Sparks Concern Over City Safety

A stray dog bit a foreign tourist who had just arrived in Tangier on Tuesday. The victim was admitted to the emergency room of a private clinic. This latest case of attack by these animals, on the eve of the high tourist season, has caused an uproar in the city.
The foreign tourist was bitten by the stray dog just after getting off the boat at the port, and was rushed to a private clinic where he was admitted to the emergency room. According to Al Akhbar, "there would be no risk of rabies contamination, as the stray dogs around the port are controlled and identified by the competent services of the urban municipality".
The people of Tangier expressed their outrage following this latest case of attack by stray dogs that are terrorizing the city, calling on the city authorities to find a viable solution to this problem before the upcoming high tourist season. "The incident has brought back to the forefront the project of an animal shelter that the Tangier city hall had announced," the publication recalls.
Pending the construction and equipment of this shelter for stray dogs and cats which should cost more than 12 million dirhams, the residents of Tangier are calling on the authorities to set up a refuge for stray dogs, as requested by the Wilaya of Tangier in a letter addressed to the officials of the municipality.
