Rabies Death in Morocco: Man Succumbs After Pet Dog Bite in Agadir

A 24-year-old man died on Sunday, October 27 in Agadir, after being bitten by his dog two weeks ago. The animal had been attacked by stray dogs and contracted rabies without its owner’s knowledge.
"The young man, named Yassine, aged 24 and living in the El Khyam neighborhood in Agadir, on Avenue Ibn Al Haitam, neglected to properly treat the bite, which led to the deterioration of his health two weeks after being bitten" by his pet dog, says a local source.
The victim was transferred on Saturday in critical condition to the Hassan II Regional Hospital in Agadir to receive the necessary care. But he died in the early hours of this Sunday morning, the same source specifies.
This tragic incident brings back to the fore the recurring problem of the proliferation of stray dogs that sow terror in the city of Agadir and disturb the peace of the city’s residents. They have repeatedly called on the authorities to find a viable solution to this problem that affects the daily lives of residents and tourists.
The Agadir municipality had announced the construction of a shelter for stray dogs and cats in the city. The project is underway on an area of 3,941 square meters. The work is progressing at a good pace. This shelter will have a capacity of about 1,000 dogs and 200 cats.
