Two Deaths Linked to Stray Dogs Spark Concern Near Casablanca

A young man was found dead on Sunday in the commune of Chlalat, near Mohammedia after being attacked by stray dogs and another young man died from a probable rabies infection in the city of Rahma, on the outskirts of Casablanca, causing panic among the residents.
These two incidents worry civil society actors who are calling on the public authorities to intervene and solve this problem by creating dedicated spaces for these dogs, while proceeding with their sterilization in order to limit their reproduction. The actors engaged in the defense of animal rights, on the other hand, deplore the slaughter of dogs.
"Dog bites on citizens will continue to occur, and instead of treating their rabies, these dogs are killed, while the majority of the dogs slaughtered are neither rabid nor sick. This approach does not solve the problem," said Yassine Iraaman, president of the Association for the Protection of Animal Lives, to Hespress.
He points out that the budgets allocated by the authorities have not brought any change: "Despite the budgets allocated by the authorities, nothing has changed, and the problem persists, with the continued presence of stray dogs in various regions." Based on these findings, he calls on the public authorities to "allow the associations active in this field to manage this issue and to implement a different strategy than the one adopted so far, which is based on the slaughter of stray dogs."
