TGV Kénitra-Marrakech construction surges past 30% completion milestone

The government has confirmed that the construction sites of the TGV Kénitra-Marrakech and regional trains have surpassed the 30% completion mark. Official delivery is scheduled for December 2029.

To decongest urban centers and provide ecological public transportation, the deployment of the regional rail network is advancing at a sustained pace. This project includes the construction of next-generation stations, with massive efforts concentrated on the Casablanca axis which will have 17 stops between Benslimane, Nouaceur and the port. The Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, detailed the creation of an unprecedented interconnection hub called "the aerospace," designed to simultaneously converge high-speed trains, regional trains and shuttles.

On the high-speed front, the line connecting Kénitra to Marrakech displays the same progress rate deemed satisfactory by the minister. Once completed, this next-generation link will drastically reduce travel times between Rabat and Casablanca. The new route will serve strategic passage points, connecting Mohammed V airport and the large Benslimane stadium before reaching its terminus in the ochre city.

In parallel, the government is already preparing the southern extension with the Marrakech-Agadir section, whose identification and implementation studies are now complete. This future line, valued at nearly 55 billion dirhams, represents a colossal technical challenge in the High Atlas region. Construction work will consist of 70% bridges and tunnels excavated over more than 35 kilometers. Faced with the scale of such a project, the supervising ministry and the National Railway Office (ONCF) are currently working to secure international financing.
