Kénitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail: One Year In, Construction Accelerates

This historic program, launched by King Mohammed VI, aims to fundamentally transform the national rail network. The bulk of this budget, 53 billion dirhams, is specifically dedicated to infrastructure for this new high-speed line. In parallel, the ONCF is investing 29 billion to purchase 168 trains to modernize its fleet, and 14 billion for maintenance of existing lines. On the ground, the new 430-kilometer corridor, whose construction began on April 24, 2025, is experiencing "notable progress." All land acquisition is complete and nearly 20 million cubic meters of excavation and fill material have already been moved. Construction of the 15 viaducts and three covered trenches is progressing actively, as is the massive supply of materials including thousands of tons of rails, sleepers, and ballast. Regarding passenger stations, the architecture is now finalized and all construction will begin by July 2026.
