Tétouan: 78 million dirhams to make room for more aircraft

Tender No. 034/26/AOO/ONDA was published on September 7. Its purpose is the “construction of the aircraft parking area and various improvements” at Tétouan airport, according to the contract details reported by Commande Public.

The National Airports Office estimates the precise cost of the work at 77,716,572 dirhams. The provisional guarantee required from interested companies is set at 1.15 million dirhams.

Candidates will be able to visit the site on September 16, while the opening of bids is scheduled for October 1 in Casablanca.

This procedure comes one year after an initial contract that also concerned the construction of an aircraft parking area and various roads at Saniat R’mel. Launched in August 2025, it had been estimated at 107.01 million dirhams.

The new contract therefore carries an estimate approximately 29.3 million dirhams lower. Its scope is not, however, worded in exactly the same way: ONDA now refers to an “aircraft parking area and various improvements,” compared with an “aircraft parking area and various roads” in the 2025 consultation.

Tétouan airport continues its transformation

This work forms part of a broader transformation of the airport in northern Morocco. A new terminal is notably under construction in order to raise its capacity to approximately one million passengers per year.

The aviation infrastructure has also already been strengthened. In 2025, work to extend the apron led to the creation of two new parking stands, J6 and J7, intended for Category C aircraft.

The new consultation comes as the future of some routes from Tétouan is also raising questions. Ryanair currently offers no flights departing from or arriving in Tétouan beyond the end of October 2026, while its winter schedule is already open at other airports.

With this new contract worth nearly 78 million dirhams, ONDA is nevertheless continuing investments aimed at increasing Saniat R’mel’s operational capacity alongside the construction of its new terminal.
