Morocco Invests Millions in Airport Upgrades Ahead of 2030 World Cup Bid

The National Airports Office (ONDA) has launched two new major tenders for the upgrading of the airports of Tetouan and Al Hoceima, in the perspective of the 2030 World Cup.
A first contract has been launched for the construction of the aircraft parking lot and various roads at the Tetouan-Saniat R’mel airport. With a cost of 107 million dirhams, it will be awarded on September 23 next, says Maghreb Intelligence.
A second tender of around 43 million dirhams has been launched for the construction of the aircraft parking lot and various roads at the Al Hoceima-Charif Idrissi airport. The opening of the bids is scheduled for September 4, specifies the same source.
These projects are part of Morocco’s strategy to consolidate its position as an international tourist destination. The kingdom aims to increase the capacity of its airports to 80 million passengers instead of the current 34 million.
