Air Arabia May Close Tetouan Airport Base Amid Profitability Concerns

Unconfirmed information indicates a possible imminent closure of Air Arabia’s operational base at Tetouan Saniat R’mel airport. This eventuality comes less than a year after the facility was inaugurated.
If this decision were indeed taken by the airline, it would be linked, according to the elements reported by Rue20, to the lack of profitability observed on several of the air routes offered from this airport.
Two main factors are put forward to explain this potential economic difficulty. On the one hand, the proximity of Tetouan airport to Tanger Ibn Battouta airport, where Air Arabia has another base, less than 70 kilometers away. On the other hand, the competition from other airlines operating in the region, such as Ryanair, is also cited.
If this closure were confirmed, it would represent a new source of concern for travelers. Passengers who have already made bookings on Air Arabia flights departing from Tetouan for the summer period would be directly impacted. In addition, residents of the areas near Tetouan would again be forced to go to Tanger airport to use the services of this airline.
