Teen Killed in Hit-and-Run During World Cup Celebrations in Montpellier

As he was celebrating with many others the victory of France against Morocco in the World Cup semi-final, a teenager of Moroccan origin was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Montpellier. The driver, who fled the scene, is actively being sought.
The tragedy occurred in the working-class neighborhood of La Paillade. The 14-year-old victim was hit by a hit-and-run driver, the prefecture announced, specifying that the boy, in cardiac arrest, died shortly after being admitted to the hospital.
A sequence from a video widely shared on social media shows the car driver charging at a group of young men and teenagers walking along a lane in Montpellier where cars are stopped in single file. After crushing and knocking down several people, the hit-and-run driver continues on his way without stopping.
An investigation has been quickly opened, under the direction of the public prosecutor’s office, to determine the circumstances of this tragedy, the prefecture said.
