The identity of the hit-and-run driver responsible for the death of a Moroccan teenager during the celebrations in Montpellier of France’s victory over Morocco is now known. He is still "actively being sought" according to the prefecture.
The Moroccan, aged 14, succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a car on Wednesday evening after the France-Morocco semi-final. The driver fled, leaving his vehicle "near the scene of the accident," the Hérault prefecture had specified.
This tragedy has provoked many reactions, in the ranks of the city’s authorities and the residents of La Paillade, where the fatal accident took place. The public prosecutor’s office announced the opening of an investigation that will help to clarify the circumstances of the accident.
The exploitation of the first elements made it possible to identify the driver of the vehicle, the prefect announced, specifying that he is "from the gypsy community." The investigations continue to arrest him.
