Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run of Teen Soccer Fan Arrested at Spanish Border

On the run for nearly two weeks, the driver of the car that hit and killed Aymen, a 14-year-old boy on December 14, on Rue de Barcelone, Cité de la Mosson, after the Morocco-France match, was arrested this Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

The end of the run for the driver suspected of having killed Aymen during the celebrations in Montpellier of the World Cup semi-final between Morocco and France. Questioned by Le Parisien, a source close to the case says that the hit-and-run driver was arrested in a car this Tuesday morning at 6 a.m. at the Spanish border. He was hiding in Spain, in Andalusia, with distant family members. He was then listed in the wanted persons file. His wiretapping allowed the investigators to succeed in arresting him on his way back to France, where he was hoping to find logistical support, adds the same source.

The events took place on the evening of December 14. A car hit a 14-year-old Moroccan teenager on a road running alongside a tramway line in the Paillade district. Hospitalized in intensive care with a life-threatening prognosis, he succumbed to his injuries, the prefect of Hérault, Hugues Moutouh, said in a press release. The hit-and-run driver, for his part, fled, leaving his empty vehicle 200 meters from the scene of the tragedy, at the level of the Jupiter residence, in the neighboring district of Mosson.
