Wednesday 21 December 2022, by Sylvanus

The burial of Aymen, the 14-year-old boy hit and killed by a runaway car on the evening of December 14, on Rue de Barcelone, Cité de la Mosson, after the Morocco-France match, took place on Tuesday at the Grammont funeral home after a silent march attended by more than 3,000 people.

Parents, relatives, children and friends of Aymen, residents of La Paillade and the city center were numerous to participate in the white march organized on Tuesday to pay a final tribute to the teenager before his burial at the Grammont funeral home. Arm in hand, they all demand justice for this young boy, a student in Mosson, mowed down by a reckless driver at the end of the France Morocco match, on December 14, reports franceinfo. Starting at 2pm from the forecourt of the Zénith, the march ended at the Grammont cemetery.

"It’s impossible, I saw him during the day... and in the evening, he was no longer there," laments one of Aymen’s classmates. "He was my friend, my colleague. We grew up together..." The neighbors and relatives are also still in shock. "It’s very important, a 13-year-old who dies without it being his fault, it touched us all very deeply," confides this neighbor. "It warms the heart, we’ve never seen so much solidarity, it’s the first time we’ve seen so much solidarity around this young man who has left," confirms this relative.

The events took place on December 14 after the Morocco-France match. A car hit Aymen, a 14-year-old Moroccan teenager on a road along a tram line in the Paillade district. Hospitalized in intensive care with a life-threatening prognosis, he succumbed to his injuries. The vehicle of the hit-and-run driver had been found "a few meters from the accident and placed under seal". Shortly afterwards, the investigators arrested and then placed in custody an individual. The latter will ultimately be released after the hit-and-run driver was identified.

"A person taken into custody since December 16, 2022 has been released at the end of the custody, without any charges being brought against him at this stage," said Fabrice Belargent, Prosecutor of the Republic of Montpellier on December 17. And to continue: "Several witnesses to the facts have also been heard. The investigations are currently continuing in order to locate an individual suspected of being the driver of the vehicle at the time of the incident."
