Tangier Plans Tramway System Ahead of 2030 World Cup Co-Hosting

Tangier should be equipped with a tramway before Morocco, Spain and Portugal co-host the 2030 World Cup. Preliminary studies will soon be conducted.
Tramway lines to transform Tangier. Preliminary studies will be carried out for the realization of new tramway lines as part of a partnership agreement involving several parties, including the Tangier City Council, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Council, the Agency for the Development of the Northern Regions, as well as the Ministry of Transport and Logistics. They aim to determine the details of the project in all its technical and financial aspects, including the distances the lines will cover, the areas they will cross, the type of vehicles used and the total cost of the project.
With an estimated overall cost of more than 10 billion dirhams, the initial project includes three lines: the first will connect the university hospital to the Al Boraq high-speed train station, the second will connect the Maghougha industrial zone to Riad Tetouan, and the third will connect the Ibn Battouta International Airport in Tangier to the Al Hassani complex near the large Tangier stadium, reports Tanja24, citing well-informed sources. The stakeholders of the project will meet to determine its final cost, as well as its technical composition and routes.
