Morocco Plans Rail Links to 15 International Airports, Starting with Tangier

The Tanger Ibn Battouta International Airport will soon be connected to the rail network, as part of a project that includes 15 international airports.
The National Railway Office (ONCF) unveils a new project. It intends to connect the Tanger Ibn Battouta International Airport to the rail network. This project is part of its five-year plan (2023-2027). This includes the connection of 15 international airports in Morocco to the rail network. Responding to a question from the socialist group during the session of oral questions in the House of Advisors, Mohamed Adeljalil, Minister of Transport and Logistics, said that the ONCF currently provides a link between the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca and the Casablanca-Port station.
According to him, the office is counting on its collaboration with the councils of local authorities to improve public transport services. It is a question of working in such a way as to connect the airports to the neighboring urban agglomerations. According to the minister, the realization of these projects will require significant funding and the convergence of the efforts of all the actors.
The ONCF shows that it attaches importance to strengthening the rail connection between the cities and the airports of the Kingdom. Mohamed Adeljalil said that the Office has carried out a structuring prospective study for the extension of the rail network called "Rail Plan 2040". It plans the construction of 1,300 km of new high-speed rail lines, 3,800 kilometers of new conventional rail lines. It also plans to connect 15 international airports in Morocco to the rail network instead of just the Mohammed V airport in Casablanca currently.
