Tangier Launches Crackdown on Illegal Sidewalk Encroachments

The city of Tangier continues its operation to clear the sidewalks of illegal occupation. Started this week, it should continue for several days, even weeks, and concern all neighborhoods.

This operation, according to the local site Tanja24, consisted of removing chairs, tables and signs installed by merchants and restaurateurs on the sidewalks without official authorization.

The reaction of the merchants affected by this operation is mixed. Some have expressed their discontent, fearing that it will harm their commercial activity, while the residents approve of this action, stating that it was important to keep the sidewalks free to allow easy pedestrian circulation.

The local authorities have announced that this campaign will extend to other sectors of the city, in order to reclaim public space and ensure the safety and well-being of the population. This operation should also concern street vendors and the organization of street trade in accordance with current laws and regulations.
