Tangier Invests 13 Million Dirhams in Major Airport Expansion Project

The development and expansion project of Ibn Batouta airport aims to contribute to the tourism and economic development of the city of Tangier. The municipality is providing financial support.

Nearly 13 million dirhams (MDH). This is the contribution of the municipality of Tangier to the expansion of Ibn Batouta airport. Under the multi-party agreement, adopted during the ordinary session of May, the municipality of Tangier will be responsible for the realization of the necessary road and multimodal connection infrastructures to connect the airport to the various centers of importance in Tangier, we can read in a press release. The work should last 48 months. This large-scale project, which requires a total investment exceeding 2.28 billion dirhams (MMDH), will be financed and carried out by various institutional actors and partners.

The project area is approximately 199 hectares. It is planned to build basic infrastructures such as an aircraft parking area and circulation lanes on an area of approximately 160,000 m², a boarding hall with an area of nearly 55,000 m², a new control tower with the associated equipment, but also the extension and construction of an airport fence over a length of 6 km, as well as the installation of a new road leading to the airport and a parking lot capable of accommodating up to 1,400 vehicles.
