Tangier Airport Expansion to Quadruple Capacity in $228 Million Project

The extension work on Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport can now begin. The National Airports Office (ONDA) has announced the definitive award of the contract to two groups and three companies.
This project aims to increase the airport’s capacity from 1.2 million to 4.4 million passengers per year, or even 7 million by 2050. With a total cost of more than 2.28 billion dirhams, its implementation should last four years.
The extension of Tangier Airport will be carried out on an area of about 199 hectares. The project includes the construction of a new passenger terminal with an area of 55,000 square meters, a new modern control tower, and the development of a new road leading to the airport.
The project also includes the creation of a parking lot for vehicles with a capacity of 1,400 spaces, as well as a parking lot for aircraft, the widening and construction of a 6-kilometer fence.
The extension of Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport aims to support the tourism and economic development of the city, which is preparing to host matches of the 2030 World Cup.
