Taxi Drivers Protest New Airport Bus Service in Tangier, Morocco

Dozens of taxi drivers demonstrated on Wednesday in Tangier to protest against the "unfair competition" of the new transport buses connecting Ibn Battouta airport to the train station.
The taxi drivers gathered in the airport area, blocking the passage of these buses put into service on Wednesday to facilitate the movement of travelers from Ibn Battouta airport to the train station and the city center. The drivers denounced unfair competition, claiming that their incomes have fallen since the start of the activities of these buses.
The launch of this new line is part of the local authorities’ desire to improve the urban transport offer in Tangier. It aims to provide a quality and lower-cost transport service to travelers and tourists on the route between the airport and the city center of Tangier, and to put an end to the overbidding of taxi drivers who sometimes charge more than 300 dirhams for this trip, compared to only 40 dirhams for the new buses.
