Tangier Illegal Buildings Demolition Investigation

In Tangier, several urban planning files are now being examined closely. According to Al3omk, the competent authorities have launched investigations following reports of buildings suspected of having been constructed outside legal regulations.

The verifications concern constructions located in sensitive sectors, notably Achakar, Rmilat and Mediouna. These areas are known for their environmental and tourist value, but also for the land pressure they face.

Investigators are seeking to verify the validity of building permits, the nature of the land concerned, the compliance of the work carried out and the possible existence of unauthorized additions.

Building permits examined

The investigation targets not only the buildings. It also focuses on the authorization process, in order to determine whether permits were issued in accordance with urban planning rules or whether certain irregularities were tolerated.

The Rmilat area, also known as Perdicaris Park, holds a particular place in this case. It is one of Tangier’s main natural spaces, with an area of approximately 67 hectares and strong ecological value.

The case reopens the broader debate on the protection of urban and peri-urban green spaces in Tangier. Local associations have been alerting for several years about the advance of concrete in areas meant to remain preserved.
