Tangier Cracks Down on Illegal Construction Near Business School

The authorities of the city of Tangier have launched a new operation to demolish buildings constructed in violation of the current urban planning regulations.
Under the supervision of the head of administrative annex No. 7, illegal constructions near the National School of Commerce and Management (ENCG) were destroyed on Thursday, according to local sources at Rue20, specifying that three buildings under construction, without prior authorization, are affected by this operation.
The demolition of these buildings follows the instructions of the Wali of the region aimed at limiting the proliferation of illegal constructions by sanctioning all those who have started the construction of buildings without first obtaining authorization from the competent authorities, violating the law on urban planning and the local development plan in this case.
Many illegal constructions have been counted since the departure of the former Wali, Mohamed Mhidia, the same sources point out, suggesting that they would be the work of a "mafia" operating in certain new neighborhoods of the city, right under the noses of the competent authorities.
Mixed inspection commissions have been dispatched to inventory these illegal buildings in the city in order to proceed with their demolition, in application of the instructions of the Ministry of the Interior. In addition, district heads have been prohibited from issuing building permits until further notice to limit this proliferation of illegal constructions.
