Tangier: the city is under surveillance

The authorities are on a crusade against acts of vandalism targeting the old medina of Tangier (a tourist city) and its iconic infrastructure. They have launched a call for tenders in this regard.

Soon new video surveillance cameras in Tangier. The many acts of vandalism have prompted the authorities to launch a call for the acquisition of new video surveillance cameras, with a budget estimated at 7.78 million dirhams, in order to better protect the old medina and its iconic infrastructure, reports the daily Al Akhbar, specifying that the urban commune of Tangier will assume almost half of the financing, in collaboration with the prefectural council. The launch of this call for tenders is also in line with the program of modernization and maintenance of video surveillance systems in Tangier.

In addition to the launch of this project, it is also planned to install 350 new cameras on various streets of the city, including 76 around the prefecture of the region and the prefecture of police. The 206 other cameras will be installed in about thirty public spaces. A fiber optic network, an electrical network and other infrastructure enabling the proper functioning of the new cameras will also be put in place over a route of more than 20 kilometers as part of this project.

The prefecture of police will have to prepare the agreements related to the operation of the cameras and identify the locations where they will be installed, while the Northern Development Agency and the Regional Council will have to ensure the management of the project, at the budgetary level or the monitoring of the implementation of the agreements concerning it, it is reported.
