Tangier Boosts Urban Security with 300 New Surveillance Cameras

The authorities in Tangier intend to strengthen the city’s security system. In this sense, they plan to invest in strengthening the video surveillance network by acquiring new cameras.
The prefecture of Tangier, the police prefecture, the urban municipality and the Agency for Promotion and Development intend to strengthen the security of the city of the Strait. A budget of 2 million dirhams has been mobilized for the rehabilitation and installation of 300 new surveillance cameras as part of a partnership agreement between the various stakeholders. In total, 76 new cameras will be installed in the outlying areas of the police prefecture, and more than 200 other units should be distributed in 30 defined public spaces, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar. The Tangier authorities also plan to set up a fiber optic network and the necessary infrastructure for the proper functioning of these cameras.
The installation of new cameras should not only contribute to preserving the safety of citizens and managing traffic in the city, but it will also allow the security services to effectively fight crime.
