Tangier Businesses Resist Costly COVID-19 Testing Despite Health Mandates

In Tangier, some private sector companies refuse to subject their employees to coronavirus screening tests due to their high cost. And yet, the health authorities require these tests each time new positive cases are recorded among the staff of these companies.

This refusal is noted even within large companies in the city of the Strait who would have refused to test dozens of employees. This is the case, for example, of an international company at the Tanger-Med port. It has been avoiding for a week to submit all its employees to screening tests, while the health authorities have reported the contamination of workers in one of the companies, informs the site Hespress.com.

Among the workers’ unions in the region, there is widespread discontent.

This situation has led the Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, to say that the responsibility for the resurgence of Covid-19 cases in the professional environment lies with the company managers. An opinion that his counterpart in Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy does not necessarily share.

The Ministry of Health has also announced that reference health centers will be deployed in the various neighborhoods to accommodate suspected Covid-19 cases that will be transferred to them by doctors from the private, public and other sectors, or by pharmacies located at the level of each neighborhood where rapid serological tests will be performed.
