Marjane Supermarket Chain Conducts 10,000 COVID-19 Tests, Closes Two Stores in Morocco

The resurgence of Covid-19 contamination cases in several regions of the Kingdom is a concern for Marjane. The group has adopted a proactive and widespread screening program of more than 10,000 PCR tests for its employees.

The Marjane group has also closed two of its hypermarkets in Marrakech where one hundred employees were found to be positive for Covid-19. This measure, launched since the beginning of August and financed by the group itself, was taken as part of a new large-scale testing campaign that the group has been conducting since August 1st on a preventive basis, prioritizing the cities defined as sensitive by the authorities, according to a press release from the group.

The employees of a store are tested in order to identify the positive cases, which we now know are mostly asymptomatic. Following these initial tests, measures can lead to the temporary closure of a store to the public, in order to reopen it under the best sanitary conditions, the same source continues.

"Testing is a barrier tool that allows, by isolating positive cases, to prevent the spread of the virus. We must contribute to limiting the spread of the pandemic in society and guarantee our employees and customers the best sanitary conditions. We have therefore decided to use PCR tests massively and voluntarily," the press release states.
