Tangier Bans Controversial Parking Boots, Paid Parking Remains

It’s the end of the use of "boots" to immobilize vehicles whose owners do not pay parking fees in Tangier. This is the decision made by the city authorities. However, paid parking remains in effect.
The measure comes in application of a municipal decree, reports the daily Al Akhbar, recalling that the Tangier authorities had entrusted the management of parking in the city to a private company that was authorized to use these "boots" against those who did not pay the parking fees.
Motorists have constantly denounced the use of these "boots", especially in the summer period when the city is very visited by tourists. After several unsuccessful meetings with the managers of the company in charge of the parking lots, the Tangier authorities finally published this decree prohibiting the use of "boots", to the great relief of motorists.
The text now provides for two zones for parking management in the city. One, in blue, which is paid, and the other, in green, reserved for residents and merchants of the neighborhoods who can subscribe to a discounted subscription. Instead of the "boots", sanctions are planned against offenders who will be fined and forced to pay a fine.
