Casablanca Parking Controversy: Motorists Protest ’Illegal’ Fines and Vehicle Boots

A wave of discontent has hit the city of Casablanca in recent weeks. The cause is the application of new parking fines deemed "excessive and illegal" by motorists.
The decision provoked a general outcry, particularly on social networks, with motorists denouncing the immobilization of their vehicles by boots and the imposition of hefty fines for non-payment.
Despite judgments rendered as early as 2014 by several Moroccan courts confirming the illegality of these practices, some municipalities persist in making agreements with private companies for the management of parking lots, disregarding court decisions. This situation has exacerbated the anger of some Casablanca motorists, who say they are being wronged and powerless in the face of what they consider to be a blatant injustice.
On social networks, motorists are demanding respect for their rights and an end to these practices that they consider abusive, particularly the use of the boot.
