Rabat Reinstates Controversial Paid Parking and Vehicle Immobilization Measures

Friday 20 January 2023, by Sylvanus

The Rabat city hall has decided to relaunch paid parking as well as the immobilization of vehicles by boots, much criticized by the population.

A loss of revenue and real parking anarchy are pushing the Rabat city hall to resume paid parking and the immobilization of vehicles by boots. The Rabat Parking company, in which the city holds 51% of the capital, which was formerly in charge of parking management, will soon resume service. A meeting between the mayor of the city and the company’s managers is said to have already been held in this regard.

A board of directors of Rabat Parking had recently been held to relaunch the activity, confirmed Asmaa Rhlalou to the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar, also announcing the formation of an administrative police team whose mission will be to apply the provisions relating to the organization of parking in the city in accordance with a jurisprudence dated 2015.

The first phase of the reinstatement of parking and the immobilization of vehicles by boots will be launched in the Hassan and Agdal-Ryad neighborhoods. The measure will extend to the other neighborhoods of the city in the coming months.
