Tangier Airport Sees 64% Drop in Passengers Amid Pandemic Travel Slump

Ibn Battouta Airport recorded a 63.85% drop in 2020 compared to 2019, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA).

At the end of last December, the airport welcomed 490,488 passengers compared to 1,356,664 travelers during the twelve months of 2019, according to the latest statistics provided by ONDA.

In December 2020, 57,116 passengers transited through this airport infrastructure, compared to 109,508 travelers in December 2019, a decrease of 47.84%. At the national level, Tangier International Airport ranked 3rd with a share of 9.17%, behind Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca (48.59%) and Marrakech-Menara Airport (10.26%), and ahead of Fez-Saiss Airport (6.42%).

In the top 5 of international air routes, the Mohammed V/Paris-Orly line occupied the 1st place in December last with 32,409 passengers and a share of 6.42%, ahead of the Marrakech/Paris-Orly line with 18,843 travelers and a share of 3.73%, and the Mohammed V/Paris-CDG line with 13,233 passengers (2.62%).

As for the air traffic recorded at the national airports, it fell by 71.48% in 2020 compared to 2019, welcoming 7,150,277 passengers against 25,075,095 travelers welcomed in 2019. In total, all the airports of the kingdom welcomed a total of 622,934 passengers, against 2,038,856 passengers in December 2019, a decrease of 69.45%.
