Marrakech Airport Sees 73% Drop in Passengers Amid Pandemic

The air traffic of Marrakech-Menara International Airport experienced a 73.36% drop during the first 10 months of 2020. This is what the National Airports Office (ONDA) indicated.
As of the end of October, the international airport of the ochre city recorded only 1,412,479 passengers compared to 5,302,743 travelers during the same period of 2019, due to the health crisis that continues to affect the aeronautics sector and slow down the recovery of air traffic.
In October alone, the air traffic of the Marrakech-Menara airport regressed by 94.88%, or 30,662 passengers, instead of 599,090 passengers in October 2019. For last September, the international airport had welcomed 12,941 travelers, 9,184 passengers last August and 5,952 travelers last July.
Regarding aircraft movements, Moroccan airports recorded only 5,024 aircraft movements in October last, a 71.94% decrease compared to the same period in 2019, of which 8.30% of this traffic for Marrakech-Menara airport, 48.27% for Mohammed V airport and 7.52% for Agadir Al Massira airport. Speaking of the Top 5 international air routes in October 2020, the Marrakech-Menara-Paris line ranks fourth with a share of 3.10% behind the Mohammed V-Paris CDG line (6.46%), followed by the Mohammed V-Paris-Orly line with a share of 4.23% and the Tangier-Malaga line with 3.56%.
At the national level, over the first ten months of 2020, commercial traffic fell by 70.79% with 6.144 million passengers. International traffic, on the other hand, recorded a 71.87% drop due to a decline in all geographic sectors. The month of October alone saw a 82.02% decline for the Kingdom’s airports compared to 2019, thus welcoming 388,659 passengers compared to 2,161,696 passengers in October 2019.
