Morocco’s Airport Traffic Plummets 71% Amid Pandemic, Casablanca Hub Hit Hard

The health crisis of the coronavirus has not favored air traffic. As of the end of November 2020, Moroccan airports have welcomed 6,523,369 passengers, a decrease of 71.68% compared to the end of November 2019.
In detail, Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca recorded 2,689,222 passengers, down 71.57%, compared to 144,688 passengers (-75.41%) for Marrakech-Menara Airport and 551,533 passengers (-70.13%) for Agadir-Al Massira Airport.
In November, 374,731 passengers transited through the airports. In total, Mohammed V Airport recorded around 45% of this traffic, a decrease of 78.21% (168,313 passengers). Like Casablanca airport, Marrakech-Menara experienced a 94.42% drop to 31,878 passengers against 25,725 passengers (-84.46%) for Agadir-Al Massira.
As for domestic traffic, it stood at 82,699 passengers, a drop of 67.5%, compared to an 83.24% drop in international traffic (292,032 passengers). This result affects all markets, particularly Europe, which generally represents more than 80% of overall air traffic.
In addition, 5,185 aircraft movements were carried out last November, a decrease of 68.99% compared to the same month of the previous year. If Casablanca airport shows a rate of 46.09% of the traffic, Marrakech-Menara records 8.91% against 7.70% for Agadir-Al Massira. In addition, air freight activity recorded a 31.58% decline, or 5,716.36 tons in November 2020.
