Moroccan Air Travel Plummets 70% in 2020 Amid Global Pandemic

Over the first ten months of 2020, commercial passenger traffic fell by 70.79% compared to 2019. Moroccan air traffic thus stood at 6.144 million passengers, according to the National Airports Office (ONDA) in its monthly statistics.
During the first ten months of 2020, international traffic recorded a 71.87% drop, due to a decline in all geographical sectors, with -71.06% in Europe, -71.55% in Africa, -77.94% in the Middle and Far East and 75.17% in North America.
For the month of October alone, Moroccan airports showed a 82.02% decline, welcoming 388,659 passengers compared to 2,161,696 passengers in the same period in 2019. Of this rate, Mohammed V airport received nearly 46% of the total traffic, a 79.08% drop. As for Marrakech Menara airport, it fell by 94.88% and Agadir Al Massira by 83.34%, ONDA said.
Regarding domestic air traffic, it fell by 69.72%, welcoming 82,781 passengers, the statistics revealed, noting that international air traffic, representing 78.70% of total traffic, fell by 83.80%. The decline affects all markets, mainly that of Europe.
As for aircraft traffic, it recorded 5,024 aircraft movements in October 2020, a 71.94% drop compared to October 2019, with 48.27% of the traffic for Mohammed V airport, 8.30% for Marrakech Menara and 7.52% for Agadir Al Massira. In addition, air freight experienced a 39.46% decline, standing at 5,075.19 tons in October 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, the same source noted.
