Morocco’s Air Travel Plummets 71% in 2020 Amid Pandemic, ONDA Reports

In 2020, Morocco welcomed a total of 7.15 million air passengers, a 71.48% drop compared to 2019 when 25.07 million passengers were recorded. These figures were published by the National Airports Office (ONDA).
The coronavirus pandemic and the measures imposed to fight its spread have caused enormous damage to the aviation sector. In December, Moroccan airports welcomed 622,934 passengers compared to 2,038,856 during the same month in 2019, a 69.45% drop, according to ONDA, the national airports office. For example, Mohammed V Airport recorded a 64.61% drop, with 302,656 passengers, compared to 855,316 for the same period in 2019.
The situation is the same in other major airports. The drop recorded in Marrakech is 87.83% with 63,891 passengers compared to 525,179. Agadir airport welcomed 36,014 passengers, a 77.89% drop. As for international commercial air traffic, it recorded a 71.84% decline in December 2020, standing at 505,026 passengers. Air freight activity, on the other hand, saw a 34.82% drop with 6,209.48 tons in December 2020, compared to 9,526.98 in December 2019.
