Marrakech Airport Sees 93% Plunge in Passenger Traffic Amid Pandemic

Passenger traffic at Marrakech airport recorded a 92.82% drop in the first half of 2021, compared to the same period in 2019.
The number of travelers who transited through Marrakech International Airport amounted to only 225,875 compared to 1,353,731 passengers for the same period in 2020 and 3,146,234 (-71.16%) during the first six months of 2019, according to a press release from the National Airports Office (ONDA).
This drop is explained by the repercussions of the health crisis caused by the spread of the new coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19) and the suspension of air traffic for several months.
For the month of June alone, the number of passengers who transited through the ochre city stood at 75,993 travelers compared to 263,464 during the same month of 2019, the same source specifies.
During the same period, this airport occupied the 2nd place nationally in terms of traffic, with 715 aircraft movements, i.e. a 57.36% drop behind Mohammed V International Airport and ahead of Agadir Al Massira International Airport.
