Morocco’s Tanger Airport Sees 56% Drop in Passengers Amid Travel Restrictions

The Tanger Ibn Battouta international airport recorded a significant drop of more than 50% in its passenger traffic at the end of February 2021. This Moroccan airport platform ranks 2nd nationally in terms of air traffic, with a share of 8.91%, behind the Mohammed V airport in Casablanca (48.97%).
According to figures from the National Airports Office (ONDA), the Tanger international airport recorded at the end of last February, a 56.32% drop in its passenger traffic with 94,703 travelers compared to 216,789 passengers during the same period last year.
Still based on ONDA figures, it appears that the Tanger/Malaga (southern Spain) line ranked 3rd in the Top 5 of international air routes in February, with 7,607 passengers and a share of 2.40%, ahead of the Mohammed V/Paris-Orly line with 12,048 travelers and a share of 3.79%, and the Mohammed V/Dubai line with 9,925 passengers (3.13%).
For the month of February alone, some 37,969 passengers transited through Tanger Ibn Battouta airport, compared to 104,806 passengers during the same month of the previous year, a decrease of 63.77%.
In total, 1,063,224 passengers were recorded in all Moroccan airports for the first two months of this year, down 73.24% compared to the end of February 2020.
