Tanger Med Rises to 35th in Global Container Port Rankings, Leads Africa

Tanger Med ranks 35th, up from 46th last year, in the global rankings of container ports by "Lloyd’s List" and "Container Management", gaining 11 places.
This position makes Tanger Med the 1st transshipment port for containers in the Mediterranean. It also confirms its leadership for the 3rd consecutive year as the 1st container port in Africa. In 2019, the Tanger Med port recorded a volume of 4.8 million containers, the best progression in the top 50 with a growth of + 38%.
At the African level, Tanger Med (35th) is followed by Port Said in Egypt (45th) with 3.86 million containers, Durban (71st) in South Africa with 2.76 million containers, Alexandria (90th) in Egypt with 1.81 million containers, Lomé (99th) in Togo with 1.5 million containers, Mombasa (106th) in Kenya with 1.41 million containers and Lagos (115th) in Nigeria with 1.30 million containers.
At the international level, Tanger Med outperforms the Port of the Panama Canal (Colon), the ports of Seattle and Savannah (USA), Felixstowe (UK), Santos (Brazil), Mundra (India), and Vancouver (Canada).
Only the top 120 ports in the world out of 500 ports with container activity are taken into account by this ranking.
