Tanger Med Port Expands Global Reach with Three New Shipping Routes

To strengthen the connectivity of Tanger Med, three new maritime services have just been inaugurated. Led by world-class shipowners, these services will facilitate connections to Europe, Asia and West Africa.

The new services aim to strengthen the positioning of the port of Tanger Med as a transshipment hub in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Thus, at the level of container terminal 3 (TC3) of the Tanger Med port, the first service called FE2 (for Far East Loop 2), has been launched by the shipowner Hapag-Llyod. The service has a ship capacity of 24,000 twenty-foot containers (TEUs) and connects the ports of East Asia, including Busan, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore, to the ports of Northern Europe, including Le Havre, Southampton, Rotterdam and Hamburg, via Tanger. "A first call in the Westbound (in the East-West direction) was made in early July with the ship HMM Dublin," said the Tanger Med authority.

As for the second service called SPX (Spain Portugal X-Press), it was launched by the shipowner Hapag-Lloyd also, at the TC3 level and connects the ports of Casablanca and Tanger - Med to the ports of Lisbon, Vigo, Algeciras, Valencia and Barcelona. A first call was made by the feeder X-Press Vesuvio.

Bijagos Shuttle, this is the third service launched and operated by the shipping company CMA-CGM. It is a seasonal service with a bi-weekly call frequency that started last June, with the feeder Joanna, explained Tanger Med, specifying that this service is responsible for the rotations between Bissau in West Africa and Valencia in Spain.

It should be noted that the port is currently connected to more than 180 ports worldwide and thus offers processing capacities for 9 million containers.
