Hapag-Lloyd Expands Moroccan Operations with New Offices in Key Ports

The German maritime transport specialist Hapag-Lloyd is establishing itself in Morocco where it was already present through its stake in Tanger Alliance. It now has three offices, one in Casablanca as the headquarters, and two satellite offices in Tangier and Agadir.

This installation will allow it to "realize its growth ambitions in the most attractive markets in North Africa," notes a press release from the management, adding that 47 maritime transport experts will meet the needs of customers in Morocco.

Discussing its real motivations, the shipowner said that "Morocco is perfectly connected to the global Hapag-Lloyd network through the port of Tanger-Med, which is a strategically important port for the entire logistics industry".

And to add that "the Kingdom, as an important platform for the export of fresh products, is part of Hapag-Lloyd’s development strategy in the refrigerated container transport sector," explains the shipowner.

The group recalls that Morocco also exports minerals, chemicals, textiles and food products, especially to European countries. Imports consist mainly of electronics, spare parts and food products.

It should be noted that in 2020, Hapag-Lloyd acquired a 10% stake in container terminal 3 (TC3) of the Tanger-Med2 port. "The Moroccan economy has experienced steady growth in recent years. With the opening of our new representation in the country, we are striving to meet the requirements of customers in terms of proximity and quality of service," said Juan Pablo Richards, Senior Managing Director Region South Europe of Hapag-Lloyd.
