Moroccan Port Tanger Med Aims to Join Global Top 20 with Expanding Capacity

Connected to 186 ports on the 5 continents and offering large annual processing capacities for freight flows, the Tanger Med port is aiming for the top 20 of port platforms.
Tanger Med, the 1st Moroccan port with an international dimension, is a natural transhipment hub for global logistics flows. More than 200 cargo ships pass through the Strait of Gibraltar daily on the shipping services of the world’s largest shipowners connecting Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa.
According to the latest data published by the management, the volume of goods transiting through it annually could soon reach 120 million tons.
With a processing capacity that can reach 9 million containers, 7 million passengers, 700,000 TIR trucks and the export of one million vehicles, it also integrates a very large capacity passenger and ro-ro port, a true maritime bridge between Europe and Africa.
The industrial park attached to the port complex, in a free zone, has 900 companies - mainly automotive, but also textile, electronics, aeronautics, logistics, agri-food - and 70,000 employees for a turnover of 5.5 billion euros in 2017, notes the note.
