Tanger's Future Buses: Wi-Fi, Smart Ticketing and Safer Urban Transport

Tanger Mobilité has published an international call for tenders worth 136 million dirhams to acquire 69 buses. Overseen by the Ministry of the Interior, the project aims to modernize urban transport to keep pace with the Strait’s dynamism.

The massive investment aims to reshape the urban and intermunicipal mobility network. Tanger Mobilité wants to guarantee a service that respects “the dignity of citizens” while adapting to the rapid economic and urban expansion experienced by the Moroccan metropolis.

The specifications require the supply of 69 vehicles measuring 8.5 meters in length, equipped with diesel engines meeting at least the Euro V standard. This environmental requirement is accompanied by advanced safety solutions, including interior and exterior surveillance cameras and automatic fire-extinguishing systems.

The buses’ interiors will feature smart ticketing, Wi-Fi access and real-time information screens for passengers. Specific facilities, such as access ramps for people with special needs, are mandatory to ensure inclusive and secure transport within the urban area.

Beyond the acquisition itself, the contract provides for rigorous monitoring, including high-quality after-sales service and the supply of spare parts. A specific clause also requires the selected provider to train technical managers and drivers, thereby ensuring the new fleet is managed efficiently and sustainably.
