Tanger Flood Tragedy: Survivors Questioned in Probe of Illegal Textile Workshop Deaths

The survivors of the flood that occurred on Monday, February 8 in a clandestine textile workshop in Tanger and which left 28 dead, were questioned as part of the judicial investigation opened to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.

The justice continues its investigation into the Tanger drama. On Monday, February 15, a week after the occurrence of this tragedy, the investigators collected and recorded in official reports the statements of the survivors of the tragedy.

According to the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia, the persons concerned were questioned about their relationship with their employer as well as their working conditions. The brother of the owner of the clandestine factory was also heard in a private clinic in Tanger where he continues to receive care. He provided the investigators with various documents such as the company’s commercial register, a lease contract as well as electricity and water bills.

The justice will also look into the legal status of this textile factory, in order to ensure that the owner is in compliance with the law. The investigation will also examine the compliance of this factory with the safety and hygiene measures required by the authorities.

At the end of the investigation, the responsibilities will be determined at all levels. Already, recalls the daily, "King Mohammed VI has reiterated his high instructions to the government so that all the necessary legal, regulatory and procedural provisions are taken to prevent such incidents from recurring".
