Tangier Tragedy: Officials Face Sanctions as Illegal Workshop Sealed

A few days after the tragedy in Tangier, the security and local authorities of the city have proceeded to seal the clandestine workshop. Several local officials should be sanctioned in the coming days.
These sanctions should be imposed at the end of the judicial investigation opened in the context of this tragedy that has mourned many families.
At the end of the preliminary investigation conducted by the judicial police services, an internal commission of the Tangier security prefecture has taken over to continue the investigations, in order to report to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, reports Al Akhbar. In addition, a special commission from the Ministry of the Interior visited the clandestine factory to inquire about all the details of its creation in this residential neighborhood.
This commission met with the owner of the factory in a private clinic where he is hospitalized. The accused as well as several officials from the prefecture of the Tangier region who were involved in the investment authorizations, were questioned by the delegates of the Interior Department.
At the end of the hearings, an expanded meeting within the prefecture of the region was organized. At this session, all the files relating to the factories and workshops of the city were consulted. According to the same source, local officials in Tangier will soon be implicated and several heads should roll.
Early Monday morning, February 8, 2021, 28 employees of this workshop were trapped by the flooding caused by the recent rains that hit the city of the Strait. It caused a short circuit that was fatal to the workers.
