Students Arrested in Meknes: Large Cache of Weapons Seized in Foiled Plot
8 students were arrested on Thursday in Meknes in possession of a large quantity of bladed weapons. They are accused of being allegedly involved in the preparation and planning of criminal acts.
This operation, carried out in collaboration with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), allowed the prefectural service of Meknes to identify the suspects, belonging to a student faction. They were arrested in a house in the Zitoune district of Meknes, according to the DGSN press release. The search operation also resulted in the seizure of 13 large machetes, five cleavers, an ax, four iron chains, 12 clubs, a vehicle, several gloves and masks concealing identifying data.
According to the same source, the investigations and research carried out by the security services made it possible to discover that it is a group of students from the city of Fez. They were preparing physical attacks as part of a settling of scores against an opposing student faction, before their arrest and the seizure of the bladed weapons and the car in which they were traveling.
In addition, the search in the database of wanted persons revealed that three of the arrested students were the subject of national search warrants for armed gathering and violence against public officials in the exercise of their duties.
For the purposes of the investigation, the suspects were placed in custody in order to elucidate all the ins and outs of these criminal acts and to identify any other persons who may be involved in this case.
