Police Officer Shoots Armed Suspect in Meknes Taxi Hostage Incident

A police officer serving at the Meknes police headquarters had to use his service weapon on Saturday, December 28, to arrest an individual with a criminal record. He had taken a taxi driver hostage and threatened the police elements with a bladed weapon.
A police patrol intervened after receiving a distress call from a taxi driver, who was subjected to an attack by the suspect (33 years old) using a knife, due to a misunderstanding that occurred during the trip, according to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) in a statement.
According to the same source, the person in question, who was accompanied by two other people, was in a state of intoxication. The DGSN also specifies that an element of the patrol was forced to draw his service weapon after the suspect violently resisted by brandishing a bladed weapon. Subsequently, the police elements managed to arrest the individual and deprive him of the knife used in this attempted assault.
Pending the elucidation of this case and the determination of all the criminal acts attributed to each of them, the person in question and his two companions were taken into custody.
