Standard de Liège Midfielder Selim Amallah Chooses Morocco for International Career

The young Belgian midfielder, Selim Amallah, has now made his choice and is making his debut with the Atlas Lions. He has opted for Morocco as his sporting nationality.

Now present on the extended list of coach Vahid Halilhodzic, Selim Amallah, a player for Standard de Liège, will take part in the match against Mauritania on Friday, November 15, counting towards the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, scheduled in Cameroon, and against Burundi on November 19 at the Prince Louis Rwagasore stadium.

"These are two official matches, so the choice is made. The coach (Vahid Halilodzic, Ed.), has often called me, but as I explained to you, the decision was up to me," justified the player on the Belgian site, Walfoot.

For the Belgian-Moroccan player, he had to think for a moment before making this choice. "It’s a choice of the heart, a choice for my family," he says to put an end to the suspense.

Now listed on the Moroccan national team’s roster, the 22-year-old midfielder trained with his teammates on Monday, November 11. Despite his ability to choose Belgium, Selim Amallah demonstrates his loyalty to Morocco.

"I grew up more in this culture, with my roots. For the Devils, anything is possible, but I really don’t want to get my head in a twist. I have to make a sporting and private choice. Mehdi Carcela, who helped me integrate, talks to me a lot and I listen to his opinion on the matter," said the Belgian-Moroccan player.
