Spanish Rapper Morad Gets 2-Year Sentence for Police Clash During Video Shoot
Saturday 2 March 2024, by
Rapper Morad has been sentenced to two years in prison for a confrontation with the police during the filming of a video clip in 2021 with French rapper Rim’K.
The events took place on August 11, 2021 in the La Florida neighborhood of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, near Barcelona. The Moroccan-origin rapper was filming a music video without authorization and the filming attracted about 150 people. The noise bothered the neighbors who called the police.
When the police arrived on the scene, they were confronted with the throwing of stones and eggs. Morad was identified as the "ringleader" of the disturbances. He pleaded guilty and accepted a two-year prison sentence. He was also ordered to pay a fine of 900 euros and not to commit any offenses for two years. In exchange for his guilty plea, Morad avoided a trial that could have resulted in a longer prison sentence.
Morad is currently "banned" from the La Florida neighborhood. He is also awaiting trial in another case in which he is accused of threatening police officers with a weapon.
Morad’s lawyer said the artist "wants to leave all the problems of the past behind him". For his part, Morad seemed downcast and did not wish to comment to the media.
This is not the first time Morad has had legal troubles. He is one of the rising stars of urban music in Spain. His music is often controversial as it addresses themes such as violence, poverty and relations with the police.
