Spanish Rapper Morad Faces 6-Year Prison Sentence for Alleged Police Assault

The Spanish rapper of Moroccan origin Morad risks a sentence of 6 years in prison for having assaulted with a taser two Mossos d’Esquadra agents in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) on July 17, 2021.
Morad is accused of alleged crimes of assault with a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon (Taser). According to the police version, the agents were finalizing a curfew control device due to the pandemic in the La Florida neighborhood of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) when residents started throwing glass bottles at them as well as insults like "Dogs, sons of bitches", explains the prosecutor.
The rapper would have been among the people who had thrown bottles at the agents. The latter would therefore have chased him in a corridor and "when he found himself cornered without an exit at the end of the corridor, with a manifest indifference towards the authority, he took out an electric defense device or taser, threw himself on the agents and kicked one of them," details the prosecutor.
According to Morad’s defense, the rapper does not currently live in his neighborhood due to a precautionary measure taken by a judge last October, following certain incidents that occurred in his hometown. Morad’s lawyers categorically reject these accusations, arguing that the rapper was not carrying any weapon and did not attack these police officers.
This is not the first time Morad has had legal troubles. Accused of attempted burglary in Barcelona in 2018, before the start of his music career, he had been acquitted. Another complaint had been filed against him in July 2022 due to a confrontation with the police.
