Spanish Police Bust Ring Selling Fake Covid Tests for Morocco Travel

The Spanish Civil Guard has dismantled in Vitoria a network of trafficking in fake Covid tests sold to people wishing to travel by plane to Morocco and other European cities. In total, 14 people were arrested.
Carried out between September 20 and 24, the operation made it possible to put an end to these networks dedicated to the production and sale of fake Covid tests. The agents carried out two searches at the homes of the arrested persons and seized various documents, as well as computer equipment used for the falsification of documents, indicates Europa Press, the Government Delegation in Euskadi.
The modus operandi of these forgers would consist in reproducing, by means of computer software, a model of a Covid test almost identical to the original, by adapting the identification data and the period of issue to the client’s needs, in exchange for the payment of a large sum of money. To give more credibility to these fake documents, they were made with typical headers of various health centers and with the real identity of several doctors.

The control system put in place by the Civil Guard at the Madrid airport, and the investigations carried out in the capital of Álava, made it possible to dismantle this network which has already provided fake tests to several individuals and to members of entire families during the holiday period. The accused are charged with various crimes of forgery and use of forgeries.
Last February, Europol had warned of the increase in the use of fake Covid tests to travel within the European Union (EU), after dismantling trafficking networks of these documents that offered their services in exchange for sums of money up to 300 euros.
